TU and UdK Universities Library

Berlin · 2013-2018

This 30,000 sqm building houses two libraries with 6 levels, shared by two different universities —the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). This project initially started as part of my masters project where I proposed the redesign of the wayfinding system through the successful proposal resulted in continuous employment for its implementation. The proposal was focused on improving the differentiation between the levels of the library as visitors were often confused due to the similarities between levels. I introduced a unified set of pictograms specific to the library, directional information and redesigned the use of colours to enable ease in navigation and identifying common amenities. Collectively, these approaches removed complexity from the navigational experience. Employees of the library was really impressed with how the re-design respected the existing architecture and design elements of the space.
